City of Dallas Hampton Illinois Branch Library |
|||||
This branch library is a 24,000 square foot facility designed to be LEED Silver certified. The library is utilized by the public and also serves as the library for a new elementary school designed and built simultaneously next door. The library was chosen to be one of four new branches in the city’s library system to have a black box theater in lieu of a formal auditorium. The architectural style of the library is a modern interpretation of the 1950’s neighborhood that surrounds it. With high flying roof angles, a large cast-in-place concrete wall, tall glass curtain walls, and canted metal panel walls, the library has a strong architectural presence in the community. Design components incorporated into the building to receive the Silver certification are energy efficient mechanical systems, water efficient plumbing fixtures, water efficient landscaping, recycled materials, natural day-lighting, highly reflective roofing and paving materials, as well as many other systems and procedures implemented to reduce the impact of the building and construction process on the environment. |
